Koolair (Pvt) Limited commenced operations in 1980 as a limited liability company to serve the HVAC industry initially and later expanded to import and supply of standby generators. What started as a small company employing 12 employees has now grown to a workforce today of over 75 employees.

In the year 1996, Koolair (Pvt) Ltd., was the first Private Sector Company to have signed a Power Purchase Agreement with the Ceylon Electricity Board to supply power to the National Grid. This was followed with the setting up of two more Power Plants equipped with FG Wilson generators of capacity 20 MW each in the suburbs of Colombo. Thereafter in the year 1998, Koolair was again the first Private Sector Company to have proceeded to the war torn North of the Country, which was in total darkness for nearly eight years as a result of the war, to restore electricity from KKS to Elephant Pass.
